Having worked for the Department of Work and Pensions, I feel it is important to point out that anybody claiming asylum is NOT ALLOWED TO WORK.
This is policy to stop economic migrants making bogus asylum claims (nevermind the economic desperation of people whose asylum claims are rejected.)
Furthermore the standard for legal immigration is now so high as to be farcical.
Take for instance the case of the professional Rugby League player Greg Eastwood. A New Zealand International playing in Australia, he had signed for Leeds this year, only to have his visa application refused because of a speeding conviction, in Australia.
If a speeding conviction makes a man unfit to enter this country, then I don't think we have to worry about dangerous criminals 'flooding in'.
Maybe someone should remind this Judge that justice is supposed to be blind, not merely wearing a bigot's blinkers. |
